Nick Johnson was in total control on Saturday while pitching a 10-0 shutout against crosstown rival San Dimas.

Bonita freshman Nick Johnson threw a one-hit 10-0 shutout against San Dimas Saturday morning to push the Bearcats record to 3-0 on the young season.

Johnson pitched a no-hitter through five innings before he surrendered the solo hit in the sixth. He ended the minimal threat by striking out the next two San Dimas batters.

Johnson was in total command from start to finish.

“I’ve just been working on hitting my spots,” he said modestly.

“Nick kept them off balance at the plate,” Bonita coach Tim Alley added.

On offense, Bonita scored two runs in the first and two more in the fourth before erupting for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to trigger the “mercy” rule.

Hitting stars for Bonita included Hunter Korn, who singled and doubled with an RBI and Anthony Cascarano who tripled and singled and collected two RBIs. Bonita collected seven hits in all.

On defense, Nick Peifer flashed the leather at third base, showcasing his strong arm to nip a speedy San Dimas base runner at first. In right, AJ Woodall also corralled a fly ball before doubling up a runner at first.

It was a well-executive game played under two hours.

“We played well,” Alley said. “San Dimas really made us work for it.”

Bonita next plays Paloma Valley at home next Saturday, March 9.
