On Thursday night, Principal Robert Ketterling said well farewell to the class of 2012, but not before proudly rattling off its amazing list of accomplishments to the packed house of proud parents, families and friends gathered at Bonita’s Glenn Davis Stadium.
Both U.S. News and World Report and The Washington Post identified Bonita as one of the nation’s top high schools. Bonita won CIF championships in boys’ water polo and baseball. Four of its coaches – Lonnie Carr, John Ashby, Greg Eckler and Andy Rosenberg – were named “Coach of the Year” by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. Baseball coach John Knott could make that five when the voting is completed for baseball. The school also started a new performing arts group, the “D Street Dancers,” with the troupe winning its maiden competition.
On the academic front, 46 students boasted a GPA of 4.0 or better. Valedictorian Janice Park, on her way to study mathematics at USC, completed a 4.61 GPA in her four years at Bonita. Salutatorian David Schibe finished his four years with a 4.6 GPA.
Also among the graduates were 10 National Honor Society winners and nine members of the National Sports Medicine Society.
After the last diploma was handed out, the students flung their mortar boards in the air, and the celebration began. Here are some photos to savor:
