Top-Seeded Bonita to Host Heritage or San Gorgonio on Friday, Wild Card San Dimas Goes Today Against Troy

video-7-0-00-27-26Bonita, 26-2 and undefeated champion of the Hacienda League, earned the top seed in in the CIF-Section Division 3 playoffs, and will play host on Friday to the winner of today’s wild-card game between Heritage and San Gorgonio. Bonita defeated San Gorgonio two years ago in a playoff game.

Los Altos, runner-up to Bonita in the Hacienda, also earned a home game on Friday, hosting Lakeside in the first round.

Meanwhile in Division 2, wild card Damien, fourth in the tough Sierra League, travels to La Mirada to play the Matadores, runners-up in the Surburban League. The wild-card winner will move on to play Redlands East Valley, winner of the Citrus Belt.

Game time for every play-off game is 3:15 p.m.

In Division 4, San Dimas, runner-up in the Valle Vista League, plays it wild card game at home today against Troy, with the winner advancing to play St. Bonaventure, the Tri-Valley champion.

Bonita is highly deserving of its top Division 3 seed, boasting three headline pitchers in senior Justin Garza (0.65) and juniors Parker Merritt (1.31) and Sam Stavang (1.79).

Offensively, Bonita is led by Thomas Castro (.488), Tyler Heslop (.448), Garza (.383), Tanner Diebold (.387), Justin Row (.367), Anthony Gonzalez (.338), Connor Renard (.333), Jacob Blunt (.313) and Woody Reyes (.300). Collectively, Bonita finished the season batting .340.

Last season, Bonita fell one game shy of the finals, losing to Beckman on the road. This year, Dodger Stadium will host all divisional winners on June 1.
