Grace Miller Elementary School in La Verne celebrated PTA Founders Day on Thursday night, March 1, 2012, at the Hillcrest Meeting House with a talent show extravaganza that featured several future American Idols.
With the incomparable Joe Fitz serving as master of ceremonies, Grace Miller marched out a parade of talent showcasing piano and saxophone players, dancers, hula hoopers, peace patrols, tigers, monsters, and girls who “just wanna have fun.”
The level of talent was extraordinary. Giving Grammy-type performances were given Julian Schubert, rhapsodizing on his saxophone with a bluesy version of “My Funny Valentine,” and Jordon Friend tickling the ivories and bringing the house down with “Jordan’s Theme.”
After the “Bazooka Bubble Gum” performance by Kennedy Vasquez, Samantha Wilton and Sophia, the girls tossed gum into the audience, immediately making them crowd favorites.
Before the start of the show, PTA President Juan Vasquez conducted some brief PTA official business. Clarie Sojka, Kaitlyn Fleming, Laurent Jacoby and Akare Biggs presented the colors. Brownie Troop No. 3184 led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and Tristan Rmabaud showed her true colors delivering a beautiful rendition of “God Bless of America,” which set the tone for the wonderful line-up of talent to follow.
Sponsors included American black Belt Academy (owner Mary Ditlinger), Foothill Federal Credit Union (Melinda Dulwicius, Glendora Branch), Justin Shuffer, D.D.S., La Verne Family Chiropractic (Afshin Kaivan-Mehr, D.C.), My Gym (owner Emily Mora), State Farm Insurance (Mark Norton, agent) and Performance Printing of La Verne.
