The New York Knicks might have Jeremy Lin, but the Bonita Bearcats wouldn’t trade their point guard, Brandon Ko, for the world. In the first quarter of Wednesday night’s opening CIF round against the Cerritos Dons, Ko paced the Bearcats Koffense with 11 points, and Bonita never looked back, defeating the Dons 80-28.

After trailing 5-2, Bonita posted an18-7 first-quarter lead, largely due to Ko and the offensive rebounding prowess of senior Garrett Horine.

Indeed, Bonita went on a 33-2 tear to lead 35-7 midway through the second quarter. From that point,  the game was all but Kofficial, as Bonita’s entire team played marvelously in front of its appreciative home crowd.

Matt Adamo, Dane Hollar, Brian Mahood and Jeff Nelson all had it going, turning the Bonita basketball court into its personal drag strip that would have impressed the NHRA’s Big Daddy Don Garlits.

“Everything starts with defense,” coach Eckler said. “Griff (Cameron Griffin) comes in and he is so physical and so tough on ‘D.’ The guys coming in off the bench, they’re coming in to push the lead, not to hold it.”

And right now, it doesn’t seem as if anybody can hold Ko and Kompany!
