According to city basketball czar Chad Petersen, there will beĀ no NBA-style lock-out in La Verne.
Some 57 teams saw action on Saturday in a slate of great games that ran from dawn to dusk.
In the always exciting āBā division, where coaches, parents, and fans really begin to see players develop, the action was fast and furious at Bonita High School.
In the noon opener, the Miami Heat cooked the Lakers 37 to 28. The Lakers held a narrow 16-14 lead at the half, but the men from Miami proved too much in the second half and pulled away late for the victory.
In the closest contest of the afternoon, the Warriors were victorious over the Celtics, 28-27. It was a seesaw struggle all the way. The score was knotted at 12-12 at half. The Celtics led 23-23 at the end of the third quarter before the Warriors turned the tables and pulled out the one-point win.
Meanwhile, the Thunder stormed to a 33 to 12 win over the visiting Bulls. The Thunder looks like one of the early favorites to take it all with their fast-paced scoring attack.
Finally, the new-look Los Angeles Clippers coasted to a 21-14 win over the Dallas Mavericks. The Clippers looked so good they didnāt even need Chris Paul to come off the bench.
It looks to be another great season of youth basketball in La Verne!
