It was muffin madness at La Verne Heights on Friday morning as the elementary school showered its PTA parents and teachers with about 500 scrumptious banana bran and blueberry muffins, along with coffee, tea and orange juice, to show its appreciation for all they do throughout the school year.

Baking all those “Muffins for Mothers” was Annie Fisher, the school’s unofficial Betty Crocker.

She started in her kitchen on Thursday at 10 a.m., went to work and resumed baking when she got home and baked until the wee hours of the morning. These mouthwatering morsels of perfection were moist and marvelous.

“I like to cook and cater,” said Annie, whose son Jason is a third-grader at the school. Her older son Curtis also attended La Verne Heights. The best indication that the muffins were a hit was that many of the students came up requesting a second or third muffin.

Helping organize the event were John and Lorraine Gallegos.

“This is an annual event we do as sort of a giveback and a way to say thank you,” John said.

An equal opportunity provider, La Verne Heights will also be offering a “Donuts for Dads” day soon, so if there is a Mr. Crocker at the school, please contact the Gallegos family or school Principal Gary Temkin.
