The doors to the Kiddie Academy in La Verne are about to open.

It’s been a year and a half construction process, but the opening is so close that business partners Steven Paul and Paul Pieroth can taste it. They can envision kids from ages six weeks to 12 years enjoying their nurturing and educationally rich environment at the Kiddie Academy Child Care Learning Center, which the dynamic developmers have built from a dusty triangular lot into a beautiful 7,200-square-foot showcase for kids at 931 Baseline Rd. in La Verne.

Today, the furniture and playground equipment are arriving. Yesterday, the parking lot was paved. Earlier, the security system was wired, the kitchens detailed and the floors polished. Even the staff has been hired in anticipation of serving the local community for the summer session.

About the only item left on the checklist is for the state to process their licenses so they can officially open their doors and enroll their first class. The academy can accommodate 116 children.

“I think parents and their children are going to love everything about this place,” Steven said in between directing a cadre of workers and delivery people rushing about. “When people come out to meet our staff, see the curriculum, see the playground, see the location, they’re going to be blown away.

“We really thought this through and I think it really shows in our facility. It’s just a beautiful place.”

The Kiddie Academy was a busy place on Wednesday in anticipation of the approaching opening, now just weeks away.

As examples, the academy features special lighting, expanded ceiling heights, enhanced insulation to dampen street noise, state-of-the-art energy efficiency and upgraded surfaces and flooring designed to last decades, not years.

Other design features include computer-enabled classrooms, around the clock video monitoring so parents can peek in on their kids any time of day and a high-tech, double-door entry-and-exit access code and security system to provide parents with peace of mind. Doors and cabinets also contain pinch-guards, and electrical outlets have been tamper-proofed.

Steven and Paul, owners of Fourcast Development, developed their eye for construction early on. The pair met while working at Walton Construction in Glendora after Steven had graduated from Brigham Young University in Utah where he majored in construction management while Paul had graduated from California State University at Fullerton. It wasn’t long before the two Glendora High alums saw the logic of forming their own construction firm. Today they both live in La Verne.
