Sergio’s Mexican & Seafood, which has been serving Glendora customers since 1984, has opened in the former Taco Factory location in La Verne. Same ownership, same delicious food.

“Actually, we opened about 30 minutes ago,” said Ulyses Silva, part of the Roberto Campos clan that has been pleasing the palates of Mexican food fanatics along the foothills for a quarter century. “It was a surprise for us. We got the opportunity of the building, and we took it.”

The turnaround from Taco Factory to Sergio’s was about two weeks, faster than the traffic signal changes at Foothill and Fruit St. The location is actually much larger than it appears from the street and includes ample seating, including a banquet room.

052Sergio’s has long been known for its handmade tortillas and fish tacos, as well as creative specials like East L.A. Tacos, Shrimp Diablo and Sergio’s Sampler. Most of the specials have prices from $8 to $12.

Sergio’s is also known for its catering.

For dinners new to Sergio’s, what’s going to get them to walk through the doors?

“We have been in business for 27, 28 years; everything is fresh and flavorful,” Ulyses said. “We buy the best meat and vegetables, and everything is homemade. Everybody is friendly.”

Happily assisting Ulyses in the first hour of business were Eliana Rodriguez and chef Eric.

Sergio’s may have been open for all of a half hour when LaVerneOnline dropped in, but with its reputation for great Mexican food and friendly service, there’s no reason why 30 minutes shouldn’t turn into 30 years.

Drop in and give it a try!
