How many times in life are you going to be able to play a round of golf with Laker Superstar James Worthy or have dinner with Jerry West, the man after whom the NBA logo is modeled. West also brought the Lakers their first L.A. championship in 1972 and later brought Magic Johnson to the city for the start of the Lakers’ high-flying Showtime era. You’ll also be able to talk it up with Hall of Famer Bill Sharman, the coach of that special 1971-72 Lakers team that won a record 33 consecutive games on their way to their first NBA title in Los Angeles.

The action all takes place at Sierra La Verne Country Club on Oct. 28. Play golf or join the celebrities for dinner, or do both. Slots are still available for the tournament of the year. Individual golf entries are $150; dinner runs just $35. There will be awesome raffle prizes, silent auction items, a live jazz band, a professional magician and a celebrity sports panel, including the above-mentioned and other stars such as the Dodgers’ Tommy Davis, Bill Russell and Al Downing, UCLA’s Jim Harrick, the list of local legends goes on.

It’s a special day and night and you’re invited. Best of all, all proceeds go to Sowing Seeds for Life, a food pantry based right here in La Verne so that families can continue to put food on the table during these lean economic times.
