The Bearcatsâ Laura Simmonsâ 19 goalie saves were not enough to save Bonita from falling to Glendora 5-0 yesterday at Bonita High School.
For much of the first half, Simmons registered save after save against a Glendora team that continued to pressure Bonita. Glendora finally broke through to score twice, with goals coming from Emily Ortiz and Amy Sefton.
In the second half it was more of the same as Ortiz scored twice more, with Sefton adding another goal, giving the visitors a 5-0 shutout.
Although rivals, Glendora got the upper-hand on Thursday.
âIt was a very emotional game,â said Bonita coach Janet Wong. âWe got lots of high stick calls. I found when we had our first line of offense, we didnât have our second line, and we were being out-cut.
âThey were very fast, we need to be faster,â Wong added.
Wong, however, found no holes in Simmonsâ game. âShe was phenomenal,â Wong said.
After playing so hard in the first, Bonita may have suffered a letdown after Glendora broke on top. In the second half, Wong liked how her team started to move the ball down the field.
âI thought in the second half, we started working well down the field,â Wong said.
In the JV game, Bonita lost 1-0.
