Bella and her friends need your help.

For the last three weeks – about the same time the Bearcats have been in fall football practice – Bella Watson, little sister of very big sister Brianna Kennedy who plays on Bonita’s volleyball and basketball teams, has been battling neuroblastoma, which is a cancer of the nervous system.

Currently, Bella’s fields of dreams are the emergency, treatment and recovery rooms of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where she recently finished a five-day course of chemotherapy and reportedly felt well enough to begin eating again. Like every child, she wants to start playing again, too.

That’s where you, the Super Fan, comes in. This Friday, the Bonita Football family is asking that you bring a toy for donation to the Bonita home game versus Claremont. The toys will help not only Bella but scores of other children just like her battling serious illness. The toys you give actually act as incentives to help the children get through their chemo treatments and the long stays in their hospital rooms. Bella’s next chemo treatment starts on Sept. 20.

Bonita senior Madison Zylstra, who is helping coordinate the toy drive, recommends going to http://www.chla.org/atf/cf/%7B1cb444df-77c3-4d94-82fa-e366d7d6ce04%7D/TOY%20DRIVE%20SUGGESTED%20LIST%2009.PDF for a list of suggested items that are age appropriate for patients. The items listed are the most popular so Children’s Hospital asks that you select from this list. Well-established brands such as Fisher-Price, Playskool and Leap Frog are excellent choices as well.

See you at the game on Friday. You pack the toy, and the football team will take care of the Wolfpack!
