Start your day by attending a gargantuan garage sale in the La Verne Heights parking lot from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the La Verne Heights school parking lot at 1550 Base Line Road in La Verne. All proceeds from the sale, which will feature everything but the kitchen sink, and you might find that , too, will go to help pay for bone marrow transplant surgery for Noah Ramos, a 10-year-old La Verne Heights Elementary School student suffering from aplalstic anemia.

Noah was diagnosed with the illness about the same time the 2009-10 school year began. Subsequently, La Verne and La Verne Heights Elementary School, in particular, have rallied around the young student, organizing blood drives and bone marrow match testing with the American Red Cross. His fellow students helped contribute by donating “Nickels for Noah” in their classrooms.

If you can’t attend today, you can send donations to the following address: Alaina Ramos, P.O. Box 283, San Dimas, CA 91773.

Then it’s time to head down the I-15 to Lake Elsinore where Bonita High School baseball team will attempt to win its first championship since 1951. That’s so long ago that Disneyland wouldn’t open for another four years. Bonita (24-4-1) will face Ocean View (21-9) of Huntington Beach at The Diamond, the single A baseball home of the Elsinore Storm.

The Diamond is located at 500 Diamond Drive. Off the I-15 South, exit Diamond Dr./Railroad Canyon Rd, then turn right to Diamond Dr. and follow to The Diamond in Lake Elsinore.

If you want to conserve on gas and stay closer to home, the La Verne Girls’ Softball Association (LVGSA) is hosting a tournament today and tomorrow at Wheeler Park and Las Flores Park where you can see LVGSA 8U, 10U, and 12U all-star teams in action.

It’s also Championship Saturday for the La Verne Little League at Pelota Park. At 10 a.m., the American League Indians face the National League Cubs in the Farm Division. At 1 p.m., the American League White Sox play the National League Cardinals in the Major Division in the first game of their three-game championship series. Both games today will be televised.
