dorsey5The quest to find the winner of America’s Got Talent competition resumes today on KNBC Channel 4 at 9 p.m. Among the Final 40 in the nationwide talent hunt is La Verne’s Charles DeWayne Dorsey, who could be taking the stage tonight in a live performance. Tune in, because if Dorsey does appear, he’ll need your vote to win it all.

Dorsey is a multi-talented singer/songwriter, pianist, saxophonist and drummer from La Verne as well as a graduate of Damien High School who now attends the prestigious California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) in Valencia, Ca. When he is not at school, he spends his time writing music or participating as the music director at his church.

His motivation is fueled by his love of music and the desire to be responsible with the gift that God has given him. If Charles wins “America’s Got Talent,” he wants to show his parents his gratitude their love and support and help them finally retire after raising Charles and his three siblings.

On July 21 on America’s Got Talent, he rocked the judges, studio audience and nationwide viewers with his cool rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours.”

About that performance, TV Guide critic Dana Zepeda wrote: “Singer/ keyboardist Charles DeWayne Dorsey was the real deal. I was skeptical when Mama Dorsey told Nick (the host) that her son ‘was born to do this.’ C’mon, don’t all moms say that? But Sharon (Osborne) nailed it when she told him, ‘You’ve got that little bit of star quality about you.’ His feel good cover of Stevie Wonder’s hit ‘Signed, Sealed Delivered’ was the high note of the night.”

Recently, Dorsey hit “For the People” was Grand Prize Winner in the 16th Annual Billboard World Song Contest. Charles was crowned Best Gospel Artist in the 2008 Hollywood Music Awards and received a nomination for “Best Male Vocal”. DeWayne also picked up a nomination for Soul/R&B single of the year in the 18th Annual LA Music Awards.

dorsey4Dorsey has also been the July winner and three-time finalist in the “Song of the Year International Songwriting Competition” and has received Honorable Mention in the “John Lennon” and” We Are Listening” International Songwriting Competitions.

Dorsey has performed at a wide variety of venues, ranging from the House of Blues on Sunset Strip, The Seoul Theological University Conference in Seoul, Korea and many other festivals and events across the Los Angeles area.

Dorsey is said to represent a blend of Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire and Marvin Gaye influenced by the present contemporary sounds of John Legend and Ne-Yo.

Through Facebook, Dorsey told LaVerneOnline, he can’t talk about his performance on America’s Got Talent until the completion of the show. Until then, LVO and La Verne can best show its support for the talented singer by watching his performance and voting for him to make it to the Finals.

Tune in tonight … and stay tuned for more updates from LVO!
