Each Christmas the Friends of the La Verne Library donates new paperback books to the military men and women from the La Verne community. This year was no different, even in a tough economy.

George May from the La Verne Library delivered more than 200 books that were purchased through generous donations from the Friends of the La Verne Library. Volunteers wrapped and boxed all of the books. The books were sent to La Verne military members who are currently serving overseas.

Following the delivery of the books, the City received a thank you letter from Captain Gary Deal of the US Navy who is serving in Atsugi, Japan.

“The books that you sent were a perfect gift that brightened our Christmas season and greatly improved the quality of life for many Sailors separated from their loved ones. It is worth mentioning that the quality of books you sent (brand new, best sellers from renowned authors), made a significant impact. Even though it has been nearly three decades since I have had a 91750 zip code, I am proud to call La Verne, California my home town. I thank you once again for the special gift over the holidays, and your continuous support to our military members every day of the year.”
