Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center’s ‘Walk to Remember’

The loss of an infant or child is perhaps one of life’s most devastating and heart-rending experiences.  Parents and their families need a support system that embraces them, helps them through their grief, and provides a safe environment to mourn, remember and to begin healing.

            Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) will reach out to these families with “Walk to Remember,” an annual event held to honor deceased infants and children. The evening will provide comfort and remembrance to the families of deceased along with a candlelight walk on Thursday, October 25, 2012.  The free event is from 7:00–9:00 p.m. in PVHMC’s Pitzer Auditorium.

            The evening is a time to find comfort in being with others who have experienced similar losses and to share in remembering an infant or child who has died.  The evening includes a memorial service, instrumental music, and various readings. A candle lighting ceremony will be held, followed by a candlelight walk led by bagpiper Richard Cook, honoring the memory of deceased infants and children. The walk will conclude with music and reflection at PVHMC’s Memorial Wall, before returning to the Pitzer Auditorium for refreshments.
