With a 10-1 win over Diamond Ranch, the Bonita Bearcats (19-1) once again showed why they are the No. 1 ranked team in the San Gabriel Valley.

On Thursday afternoon, in their home park, Justin Garza twirled a one-hitter for five innings before giving way to reliever Sam Stavang. Meanwhile, Nolan Henley, belting a grand slam in the six-run fourth inning, and several other Bearcats furnished ample run support.

Bonita broke through with two runs in the bottom of the second. Tyler Heslop and Jake Blunt got things started with back-to-back singles before Panthers hurler Ceasar Carrillo hit Anthony Gonazlez to load the bases with no outs. Heslop scored when Henley got aboard on an infield error. Blunt scored when Tanner Diebold tapped into a force out at second base.

In the bottom of the third, Bonita responded again with a pair of runs when Gonzalez stroked a clutch two-out, two-run single. He came up with the bases loaded after Garza got aboard on an error, Castro singled and Heslop walked.

Bonita opened the floodgates in the fourth inning, scoring six more runs, all with two outs, the big blows coming off the bats of Jake Blunt, who lined a two-run double, and Henley, who launched a shot down the left field line for a grand slam. Garza and Victor Magallanes also singled in the inning.

HOW IS THIS MAN EVEN STANDING? If you can't beat 'em, hit 'em, which Diamond Ranch did, plunking Anthony Gonzalez three times. Gonzalez also lined a two-run single for a perfect day at the plate.

Meanwhile, Garza was his usual superlative self, forcing both coaches and writers to rn out of adjectives to describe his bulldog efficiency and cool but deadly command.
