An Upcoming Champion Cello Performance, Oct. 15

kylechampion1La Verne’s Kyle Champion, cello, and James Walker, piano, will perform Saturday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m., at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Covina, Calif. in a benefit concert to raise funds to retrofit the church’s sanctuary.

This concert will feature the music of Vivaldi, Mendelsshon, Debussy, and others. A $20 donation is suggested.

Champion is the principal cellist with the Redlands Symphony and regularly performs with other area orchestras, including the Long Beach, Pacific, and San Bernardino Symphonies, the Los Angeles Opera, the Pasadena Pops Orchestra, and the South Bay Chamber Orchestra. Since 1995, Champion has been applied instructor of cello at the University of Redlands and has served on the faculties of La Sierra University, Cal Poly Pomona, Oklahoma City University and Oklahoma Baptist University. Champion earned a Bachelor of Music degree at Southern Methodist University and Oklahoma Baptist University, and completed his Masters of Music degree in cello performance at the University of Southern California, where he studied with Ronald Leonard.
