To the famous dance groups like the New York City Rockettes, Ziegfeld Follies, El Ballet Folklorico, and The Jabbawockeez, you can add one more: The La Verne Heights Dancin’ Delights.
During the second annual La Verne Heights Dance Festival, the entire student body put on its dancing shoes and entertained hundreds of parents and guests with a full hour of slides, shuffles, jigs, sock hops, and square, country line and Chinese ribbon dances performed in a dazzling array of colourful costumes that would have done Mardi Gras proud.
Probably no parent was prouder of the proceedings than Ron Johnson whose wife Karen chaired the Dance Festival. Now he gets back both his wife and his living room after she and countless others devoted hours — which turned into weeks, which turned into months — organizing this fabulous function.
Principal Gary Temkin emceed the line-up, calling out the various classes, and PTA president Mae Gil honored scores of PTA volunteers for their dedicated service, capping another fantastic year at La Verne Heights. But in the end it was the students who stole this show, displaying all their dance moves on the black top.
