The Bonita Varsity Cheer team rose high in the competition.

It’s not enough that Bonita’s cheer and song teams root, dance and do backflips to try to inspire the school’s football, basketball and other athletic squads all year long. They are outstanding athletes themselves.

Last weekend, Bonita’s varsity cheer team made it to the final round of the National Cheer Competition at the Disneyland Resort USA 2011 Nationals in Anaheim, Calif., placing sixth.

Another tower of strength at the competition was the JV Cheer team.

Meanwhile, the Bonita JV Cheer Team, composed of freshmen and sophomores, also qualified to compete in the National Cheer competition. Although the team did not make it to Sunday’s final round, just being invited to participate in the elite competition was a victory for the girls.

The Varsity Song Team further boosted Bonita’s representation at the prestigious event. The spirited team didn’t place but gained valuable experience for future competitons.

The teams are coached by Brandie DeLang.
