The White House has lost a quarter of its value in the great real estate recession.

Stocks versus real estate investments?

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 11% in 2010 on top of almost 19% gains in 2009.

Meanwhile, the White House, a part of which you own, is now valued at just $253.1 million today compared to $331.5 million at the top of the real estate boom in 2007, a 23.6% decline in value, according to Zillow, the online real estate marketplace.

In the last year alone, the value dropped almost $4 million.

The White House, designed by James Hoban in the Palladian style, features 132 rooms, including 16 bedrooms and 35 bathrooms on 18 acres. With the recent drop, the per room rate is now a little under $2 million.
