Showing no effect from over-indulgence, eating too much of grandma’s stuffing and apple pie, the La Verne San Dimas Pop Warner Spartans defeated the Ontario Bears 14-2 in the annual Citrus Bowl hosted at Glenn Davis Stadium in La Verne.

The Spartans and Bears brawled to a scoreless tie in the first half, before the Spartans exploded with some late third-quarter thunder. The first strike came on an 82-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Palacios to Lucas McGill. Then moments later, after the ensuing kick-off that pinned the Bears deep in their own territory, Aaron McCraven recovered a fumble, giving the Spartans the ball back at the Bears’ 6-yard line. On the very next play from scrimmage, Palacios found E.J. Pasowicz in the end zone for another six points.

The Bears scored a late touchback in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.

In the first game of the day-long Citrus Bow showcase, the LVSD Gladiators sent the Bears into early hibernation with a 33-7 win. Running out of a no-huddle, shotgun formation, Gladiator Quarterback Bryce Young threw scoring strikes of 50, 30 and 20 yards.
