What will be the most popular costumes this year?

La Verne’s Grace Miller always finds a way to ramp up Halloween excitement and some ghoulish good times, and this season is no exception.

On Thursday, Oct. 28, the Fall Festival gets underway at 5:30 p.m. with a costume parade that begins at Kuns Park and ends at Grace Miller, where opening ceremonies kick off at 6 p.m. Local dignitaries as well as members of the Hillcrest Retirement Community will assist Fall Festival Chairman Juan Vasquez, PTA President Julie Harris and Grace Miller Principal Deanna Spence in judging the costume contest.

After the opening ceremonies at Grace Miller, game booths will open and other activities will commence, including DJ entertainment, silent auctions and food booths, including a PTA-hosted hot dog dinner that features a hot dog or chili dog, chips, drink and cookie, for $4.

To get in the Halloween spirit, there’s no need to wait until the 28th, however. Pre-sale tickets for the game booths are on sale now at the school for 50 cents each. (No money will be taken at the booths, so make sure you get your ticket order forms in early.)

To help the PTA raise additional monies to offset future field trips for students, you can also donate your old costumes that will be sold at Fall Festival’s Costume Boo-tique.

“This is your chance to clear out those costumes and make a contribution your child’s PTA as well,” said Lisa Pilios, PTA Fall Festival Costume Coordinator. Lisa is accepting costume donations now. For more information, contact Lisa at lisapilios@yahoo.com.

The PTA hopes to raise $3,000 on what promises to be a night of great thrills, chills, deals and meals.

On the same night, Oak Mesa is hosting a Family Fun Night Country Hoedown from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m, featuring a live band, games, barbecue and line dancing. That morning, Oak Mesa will also wrangle up a bunch of cowboys and cowgirls and “go country.” Capping the morning will be a costume parade starting at about 8:30 a.m.
