Robert “Bobby” Michael Groom obtained the rank of Eagle Scout on Aug. 31,2010. He is the son of Kim and Steve Groom, of La Verne, and is a member of Troop 411.

Bobby began as a Cub Scout with Pack 415 in 1999, advancing through the ranks of Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos. He earned the Arrow of Light before bridging into Boy Scout Troop 411 in 2004.

In Boy Scouts, Bobby exceeded the minimum requirements by completing: 30 merit badges. His camping experience of 54 nights included a backpack trip down the Grand Canyon. The leadership positions Bobby held were: Den Chief for a Cub Scout den of eight boys for 3.5 years, Patrol Leader, and Troop Instructor.

During his Eagle Project, Bobby led 54 volunteers providing 214 hours of beautification work to Oak Mesa Park and ravine by planting trees, cutting back bushes, and repairing the baseball backstop at the park.

In addition to his scouting experiences, Bobby is Assistant Drum Major for the Bonita High School Marching Band and Founder/President of Bonita’s Physics Club. He also participates in Jazz band, Symphonic Band, Varsity Swim Team, National Honor Society, and is taking advanced placement and honor classes. Bobby’s future plans include attending a four-year college where he would like to pursue a career in engineering.

Bobby’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor will be held on Saturday, December 11 at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church in La Verne.
