Justis Mireles-Torres from Bonita High School is one of more than 1,000 high school cheerleaders from across the United States who will be performing in the world famous London New Year’s Day Parade. The All-American Cheer invitation adds to the sophomore’s growing list of recent accomplishments. She captained her freshman and now JV cheer squads, was captain of Bonita’s frosh/soph girls’ soccer team, sang in the school chorale, and plays on the U16 FC Barcelona girls club soccer team! She was also a member of the Freshman CORE academic class.
Justis was selected as an All American at summer cheer camp over July 23-26, hosted by the United Spirit Association (USA). All Americans are selected to try out based on superior cheerleading skills at camps across the country. Only the top 12% of the cheerleaders, who attend USA summer camps, earn the chance to march and perform in the holiday spectacular London parade. The All American Team will also be given an opportunity to tour London during its seven-day trip.
“This is the 24th year we’ve been able to bring talented cheerleaders to London, where they can showcase their skills to a very enthusiastic international audience,” says Mike Fultz, the UCA/USA International Event Coordinator.
Of course, such an international trip involves a great deal of expense. Those wishing to support Justis’s journey to represent her country can make a donation (in check form) to Justis Mireles-Torres, c/o Chae Mireles-Gamboa, P.O. Box 81, Glendora, CA.
Chae, Justis’s mom, teaches dance and cheer for La Verne’s City Parks and Recreation Department. For more information, please contact her at (909)596-4169.
