Now that the seniors will be leaving Bonita, they're the ones who will be responsible for the cooking, not John Normington and Erin Zachary.

Senior Richard Elmore, who wants to study agricultural and drafting, says the food passed the sniff test.

Norma Islas and Ashley Orellana are off to Mt. SAC. Ashley said she wants to pursue a doctorate in psychology.

Brandon Tippings, Karisa Crawford and Sam Bashist hunker down for some good reading. Later that day, Karisa played in a semifinals softball match against Ayala.

Thomas Lacey and Christina Martinez read their annuals along a fence. Thomas says he's going to work for a year before heading back to school. Anybody who can get a job in this economy, now that's one smart kid.

Up in the stands, away from the crowd, it's easier to diss everyone's yearbook photos.

Brittnay Alamillo and Brady Hardy graciously interrupt their reading for LaVerneOnline. Brady is off to study photography in Arizona. She always was a focused young lady.

Christine Yap was playing plastic softball with some senior friends.

Enrique Esceninou and Nareg Avakian. If you can tell them apart in their stay-puft marshmallow/Michelin man suits, you have a good eye for detail.

Would the Bonita baseball team get up and please win a game for a change!

Boosters Prez Alicia Mierke and company were pitching in one more time.

Bonita rolled out the green carpet for its graduating seniors on June 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. by presenting them with their 2009-10 yearbooks along with a full spread of food, fun and games.

Up in the farthest corners of the stands, under EZ-Up tents, sprawled out over the field, or simply seated on benches, pockets of seniors pored over their annuals while entertained by the rhythmic offerings of a bumping disc jockey.

The occasion and setting were easy and hang-loose – a festival on the green – in stark contrast to the more formal graduation exercises awaiting the same students on June 10.

Below are some photos of the carefree morning, a few more keepsakes before Bonita’s 2009-10 seniors go their many ways – off to college, work, the military, travel and to learn how to stand on their own in a world where attending class is no longer compulsory.

Frightening, exhilarating, challenging, unpredictable!
