Chloe Wurst and Karisa Crawford combined on a three-hit, 4-0 shutout over the Wilson Wildcats yesterday in La Verne, extending the Bearcats’ amazing spring record to 18-1-1.

In the first three innings, Wurst was simply overpowering, striking out eight of the minimum nine batters she faced. After lead-off hitter Vanessa Bracamonte flied out, Wurst fanned the next eight in a row. In the fourth, she lost her perfect game with a walk to Sarah Guzman and her no-hitter when Renelle Calderon punched a one-out single. Wurst also surrendered a two-out bunt single in the fifth, but that was the full extent of her generosity.

Crawford picked up for Wurst in the top of the sixth. She was touched up for a single, but that was it. She struck out the final batter to record the save.

“We wanted to work both pitchers today,” said head coach Ken Carlson. “They were both sharp despite the rainout earlier in the week.” Bonita makes up their rainout today at Diamond Ranch.

Meanwhile on offense, Bonita benefited from doubles by Crawford, Corrina Liscano and Kate O’ Malley and a single by 0172

Jazzlyn Costa to score three runs in the bottom of the second. Bonita pushed across another run in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Wurst after Costa had started the inning with a single.

“Right now we’re playing well,” Carson said. After today’s make-up against Diamond Ranch, Bonita plays for the Charter Oak Tournament championship against St. Lucy’s on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Covina.
