The CIF girls’ basketball game that fans thought they had paid to see quickly turned into a track meet as the Bearcats ran away from the Gabrielino Eagles, 75-18, on Thursday night in the Bonita gym.

The quarter scores were 19-6, 47-6, 64-15 and 75-18. Bonita repeatedly used its height advantage, superior outlet passing and consistent shot-making to dominate the action.

The Bearcats’ perimeter shooting was phenomenal from start to finish led by Lauren Hastings and Madison Zylstra each with 16 points.

Regardless of who coach Darren Baumunk put in, there was no drop-off in play. It was bombs away all night, with virtually no one missing the mark.

“Our defense triggered the offense,” Baumunk said. “Our goal was to limit our opponent to know more than six points a quarter, and we did that tonight.”
