One reporter’s take on new releaguing agreement:
What do the Bonita Bearcats have in common with Conquerors, Bulldogs, Brahmas, Raiders, Mustangs and Panthers. They’re all members of a new league realignment that would take effect in the fall of 2010.
The new, as yet unnamed league features some old faces, the Los Altos Conquerors and Diamond Ranch Panthers, and several news ones, the Walnut Mustangs, Diamond Bar Brahmas, West Covina Bulldogs and Rowland Raiders. It’s a relief to know that the Raiders, not the bunch from Oakland, are our new neighbors somewhere along the 60 freeway.
As for natural rivals, logistically close ones like Damien, Glendora, San Dimas, Charter Oak, Claremont and such, they might as well be playing half way across the country. The principals, athletic directors and other administrators responsible for making this athletic sausage were more concerned with striking competitive balance than worrying about how far parents or the students themselves would have to travel to an athletic contest.
So if no appeals are granted, when they’re heard on May 6, call your car insurance folks, then fire up your GPS. We hear Rowland Heights is lovely in the fall, and Walnut, well, they don’t really much care for football anyway. Aren’t they the only city fighting the construction of a new NFL football stadium, even though the proposed new stadium ISN’T EVEN IN THEIR CITY?
We know what a mustang is, but a Brahma? No doubt, we have a lot to learn. For now Google “Brahma” along with directions to Rowland Heights.
See you on the road!
