The Bonita PTA Council spring luncheon, representing all 13 schools in the Bonita Unified School District, drew the who’s who of education in La Verne and San Dimas at the Hillcrest Meeting House in La Verne on Friday.
Dr. Gary Rapkin, superintendent of the Bonita Unified School District, used the special occasion to thank school principals, school secretaries, school board members, administrators and PTA volunteers for working as one team “to help the children dream big and achieve their dreams.”
“How do we best help our students that are entrusted to us?” he asked audience members:
“To give them the freedom to dream;
To do whatever it takes to make them feel empowered; and
To help them feel and be more confident.”
Members of the Bonita Council PTA also elected current council board president, Andrea Egan, to a second term.
Egan closed the official portion of the program – before all the fun stuff like the raffle and the Southern smokehouse barbecue – by quoting Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low: “The work of today is the history of tomorrow, and we are its makers.”
Two of those makers who were singled out for all they do to support the district’s schools, teachers and children were Isabel Huber, recipient of the Very Special Person Award, and Sandy and Jon Boulware, recipients of the Honorary Service Award.
