On Thursday, Bonita made short work of the Diamond Ranch volleyball team, sweeping the Panthers, 25-12, 25-8 and 25-16, to continue their undefeated league winning streak now in its third year.
When asked when was the last time that her team lost a league game, head coach Adriana Contreras pleaded amnesia. “I can’t remember,” she said.
What she remembers is Bonita’s amazing come-from-behind victory at home against Diamond Bar last week, which still has fans, friends, players and parents buzzing.
“Definitely, the toughest team to beat is Diamond Bar,” said Contreras. “Diamond Bar is a great defensive team. We are not used to defending against such an outstanding defensive team.”
The follow up match against Diamond Bar will take place Nov. 1 on the Brahmas home court.
After the Diamond Bar victory, Bonita definitely deserved a breather and got it against Diamond Ranch, which could do little to withstand the frontline play of UC Irvine-bound Victoria Dennis and Loyola Marymount-bound Briana Kennedy. In the first game, freshman Riley Inman’s service was almost untouchable.
Contreras, who kept circulating her excellent roster of players, also received outstanding play from Kassandra Mejia, Melissa Katherman, Danielle Lines, Tasha Hui, Olivia Rioseco, Ashley Albo, Kaitlyn White, Sarah Bruchet and Marissa Paiz Kurey.
The girls are proving to be champions off the court as well. In a home game against Walnut on Oct. 27, Bonita will host its annual Dig Pink event to raise funds toward finding a cure for breast cancer. To donate auction/raffle items for this special occasion, please contact coach Contreras at a.contreras@bonita.k12.ca.us.
Until then, dig and think pink.
