Not even a hot muggy day could squelch La Verne’s Independence Day spirit as an endless procession of cheerleaders, Little Leaguers, bands, motorcyclists, veterans and politicians paraded through town, waving flags, throwing candy, honking horns, singing, marching and dancing in the streets.
Andy Mutschler, who headed up the pancake breakfast, said Boy Scout Troop 411 served up well over 1,000 breakfasts. There wasn’t a link left out of the more than 3,000 sausages served.
Once the crowd filled up on pancakes and sausages, it seemed everyone took his or her place in the parade, which reportedly had more participants than any in recent memory.
Signaling the start of the parade, there was a fly-over followed by a parade of about 150 Harley motorcycles carrying flags representing all 50 states and all branches of the military under the theme, “Let Freedom Ring.” That was a misnomer; it should have been “Let Freedom Roar.” It was a thunderous opening to a grand day!
More to follow as events continue … for now enjoy some photos …

Great coverage Peter. You caught the essence of this parade. A great patriotic parade featuring family and community groups. Great job.
