It kept going and going and going. When the softball throw by Victoria (Tori) Swindle finally landed, it had traveled 148 feet away, far outdistancing the competition to win the softball throw for girls (age 11 division) at the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation Track and Field Championships.
It was the third consecutive meet that Tori let her arm do the talking. At the Bonita Unified School District, her winning toss measured 114 feet. At the San Gabriel Valley meet she stretched her winning mark to 124 feet, and then in Downey, she uncorked the whopping the throw of 148 feet. The runner-up threw the softball 115 feet, 9 inches.
To put into perspective how far Tori’s toss traveled, her winning throw of 148 feet would have placed her first in the 12- and 13-year-old girls’ division. She would have finished second against the 11-year-old boys and third against the 12-year-old boys.
Her herculean throw is now part of the SMAF record books, just 10 feet shy of the record for 11-year-old girls.
The Major League Baseball draft took place this week. While an 11-year-old has never been drafted into the pros, a few scouts no doubt have put Tori on their radar!
