The championship is here. The stage is set. The players have rehearsed their parts. On Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at Bonita High School, the roaring RipTide, coached by Mike Mata, will square off against the sizzling Fire Bolts, coached by Shane Crowell, in what’s expected to be the AYSO u12 boys’ showdown of the season.

Both teams won important semi-final games on Tuesday to advance to the finals.

The Fire Bolts earned their place in the championship by blanking the Men in Black, 5-0. The Bolts used a balanced scoring attack to do it. Scoring for the Bolts were Cameron Martin, with two goals, and Ryan Crowell, Cole Stidham and Tad Sanchez with one goal each.

Coach Crowell was surprised by the outcome. “The Men in Black had an off-day, and we had a great day,” the coach said. “I never thought it would be like this.”

With the win, the Fire Bolts ran their record to 9-2-1, including 4-0 in the playoffs.

Players on the Fire Bolts include: Ryan Crowell, Shawn Guerrero, Bashar Haddad, Liam Kreuz, Joshua Long, Kameron Martin, Mike Noriega, Jarid Norquist, Tad Sanchez, Richard Sosa, Cole Stidham, Andrew Tarakji. The assistant coach is Kris Martin. Team mom is Christa Crowell.

In the nightcap of the twin bill, the RipTide washed away some early sluggishness before cruising to a 6-1 victory over the Green Lightning. The Lightning had no answer for Sammy Yagoda who scored five of the RipTide’s six goals. Joey Ortiz scored the other goal for the Tide. The team’s Nick Jabara had a terrific assist to set up one of Yagoda’s goals. Meanwhile, the RipTide’s Chase Diato was a vacuum playing goalkeeper. On one Lightning attempt, he rose high to knock the scoring threat away.

Enrique Orozco scored the Green Lightning’s lone goal.

Players on the RipTide include: Chase, Nicholas, Ethan, Devin, Sammy, Michael, Nicholas P. Robert, Wesley, Davis, Joseph and Brandon. They’ll come ready on Thursday. They remain undefeated on the season, which includes a victory against the Fire Bolts.
