During the hot summer months, the La Verne Fire Department wants to remind pool owners to brush up on their water safety tips. The most important water safety measure is adult supervision of young children around water at all times. However, a drowning can occur quickly, silently, and can be prevented.

Please review the following checklist to make sure your family, your home, and your pool are ready for summer time fun:

• Check fencing around the pool and check the gate latches to make sure they are self closing. Never leave the gate propped open.
• Furniture and other supplies should be kept away from the pool. This is only a temptation for children who like to climb.
• Pool chemicals and equipment should always be locked up.
• Keep trees and bushes trimmed and remove anything that might block the view of the pool.
• Don’t rely on swimming lessons or “floaties”.
• Keep life-safety equipment mounted near the pool.
• Designate a water watcher for supervision of children around the pool.
• Take a CPR class.

If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact the Fire Department at (909) 596-5991.
