In a trip to Beaumont, Calif., this weekend, La Verne’s Girl’s Softball (LVGSA) 12 and Under Division took first place in the District All-Star Championship, earning the team a berth in the Southern California “C” All-Star Championship to be held on July 17-19 in San Diego.
The Southern California Amateur softball Association (ASA) is divided into seven districts.
In winning the district championship, La Verne won five of six games, scoring a total of 66 runs. Geographically, teams in the competition ranged from San Dimas to Beaumont.
To win the district championship, the girls displayed uncommon skill, determination and heart, coming from behind on several occasions to pull out victories. “Once these girls got going, they were a force to be reckoned with,” said Steve Carrillo, one of the coaches along with Chris Carpenter, Jodi Moore and Tim Gatlin.
Despite its small size, LVGSA is an extremely competitive league with three out of it four divisions competing in the State All-Star Championship (10’s, 12’s, & 14’s). With dedicated coaches and proud, supportive parents, these girls have learned the value of portsmanlike play and never giving up.
12U Players are: Lauren Calderaro, Chelsea Carpenter, Mikayla Carrillo, Bailie Carroll, Brittany Ciauri, Loraine Gatlin, Brittany Griffin, Hailey Long, Lauren Mara, Abby Milner, Shelbie Moore, Veronica Ortega and Ali Segura.
