La Verne Library is Smart Choice All Summer Long

top-ten2Not answering enough Jeopardy questions lately? Make this the summer to expand your mind and your universe with help from the The La Verne Library, which has lined up a terrific reading program and calendar of events for curiosity-seekers and lifelong learners of all ages.

In particular, the La Verne Library is sponsoring a number of themed summer reading programs. They include “Be Creative at Your Library” for preschool age kids to 5th graders; “Express Yourself @ Your Library” for teens; and “Color Your Summer” for adult readers.

The summer reading program began on June 12 and will continue throug August 31.Kids and teens are encouraged to read books during this time to win prizes for the reading they have done and to earn points towards more prizes at the August 7 auction. Now’s the time to dive in, so sign up today!
 
There are loads of other programs to keep children and teens excited and involved all summer long:

Mondays @ 2:00 p.m. – Game Days (kids & teens)
Mondays @ 4:00 p.m. – Video Game Club (teens)
Tuesdays @ 2:00 p.m. – Art Days (kids & teens)
Wednesdays @ 6:30 p.m. – Family Storytime w/Art Activity (kids)
Thursdays @ 2:00 p.m. – Video Game Tournaments (teens)
Fridays@ 12:00 p.m. – Baby/Toddler/Preschool Storytime (except 6/19)
Saturdays @ 12:00 p.m. – Anime Club (teens)
 
Friday’s Main Events:
6/12 @ 2:00 p.m. – Summer Reading Program Kickoff w/Wildlife Company (kids & teens)
6/19 @ 12:30 p.m. – Party Puppet Show (kids)
6/26 @ 2:00 p.m. – Bead It! for Tweens
7/10 @ 2:00 p.m. – Express Yourself Art Activity (teens)
7/17 @ 2:00 p.m. – Magic Tree House Event (kids)
7/24 @ 2:00 p.m. – Bleach Event (teens)
7/31 @ 2:00 p.m. – Baby/Toddler/Preschool Playday
8/7 @ 10:00 a.m. – Auction begins for final summer reading program prizes
8/7 @ 2:00 p.m. – Pizza Party
 
In addition, some programs occur each month on a regular basis. These are:
 
Monday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. is the Video Game Club
Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. is Preschool Storytime
Fridays at 12:00 p.m. is Baby/Toddler Storytime
Saturdays (2nd, 3rd, and 4th) at 12:00 p.m. is Anime/Manga Club
1st Saturday of the month is reserved for a Video Game Tournament at 12:00 p.m.

The Adult Summer Reading Program will be running from mid to late June to the end of August. Adults will have the opportunity to read a book and then submit a review on what they read or listened to (audiobooks). A full complement of special events complements this reading program, too. In addition to the adult programming, Friends of the Library meet monthly on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the La Verne Library’s meeting room.The group is dark in July and August.
