holyname1Holy Name of Mary School is planning community and school events in observance of Catholic Schools Week.  Highlights include an Open House at the school, collecting books for students affected by Hurricane Sandy, a book fair, and creating and sending valentines to our military.

The events are part of the nationwide celebration of Catholic education during the week of January 27-February 1.  This year’s theme is “RAISES THE STANDARDS.”  This year’s theme expresses a focus on providing an education that combines academic excellence with high moral standards and faith development.

Catholic Schools Week begins on Sunday, January 27 with a Mass at 10 a.m. where students will be in the procession and serve as greeters, altar servers, lectors and choir members.  A video about the school will be shown at every Mass. Students are giving our parishioners the gift of prayer for Catholic Schools Week.  The second grade will provide donut fellowship after Mass.

Monday, January 28, will celebrate CATHOLIC SCHOOLS RAISE THE STANDARDS: IN OUR COMMUNITY.  The students will be colleting change as participants in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients Program.  They will also be collecting books for students in a school in New York that was affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Tuesday, January 29, Holy Name of Mary invites prospective students, their families and community residents to visit during an Open House.  An informational session for new families will be held from 6 to 7pm in the Faculty Room.  The Open House hours are from 7-8:30 p.m  and will include an Art Fair in the Jr. Bldg. and the Science Fair in the Sr. Bldg.  The 4th grade mission projects will be under the St. Louis Pavilion.

Wednesday, January 30, Holy Name of Mary will recognize the value of national service.  Students plan to make valentines for our military servicemen.  The day will end with an assembly called THE NED SHOW, a character education assembly at 2:00 p. m.

Thursday, January 31, the day will focus ON OUR VOCATIONS AND OUR FACULTY AND STAFF.  The school will focus on the significant contribution of our teachers who encourage students to strive for academic excellence and a lifelong commitment to faith and service.  There will be a rosary prayer for vocations at 10 a. m. and a Student Council breakfast for our priests, faculty and staff.  The day will end with a student vs. faculty volleyball game at 2:30 p.m.

Friday, February 1, is literally a special day for SPECIAL PERSONS’ DAY.  Catholic Schools Week closes with a celebration of the special people in the lives of our children.  Students are invited to bring their special person to school. Hospitality will begin at 8:45 a.m. under the Pavilion.  Mass to follow with lunch to follow sponsored by the 7th grade.
