The Ramona Middle School Vikings completed an undefeated season on their home court Thursday, trouncing Sandburg Middle School of Glendora, 49-29.

Ramona came out a little tight and closed out the first quarter leading only 5-4. The Vikings pushed that margin to 20-10 at the half and 36-18 at the end of the third quarter before cruising home with a 20-point victory. Top scorers for the Vikings were Dane Holler, with 13, and Brenden Smith, with 12.

“It was a pretty amazing season,” said Cory Hanson, in his first year piloting the 8th grade team. “We won a few close games by four or less points, so we were pretty lucky. It was a great time with these guys. They have good character, and they handled business.”

Before the game, Hanson was told the Vikings hadn’t gone undefeated in six or seven years, so getting the perfect season was on his and his players’ minds.

“Once the kids heard that, they got hyped up,” said Hanson, also a school counselor. “I was just excited to win the games we had won, but now we’re all looking forward to getting our ‘Undefeated’ shirts.”
