LA VERNE, California, November 21, 2017 — City Hall might have been the safest place in La Verne last night as scores of fire and police personnel turned out, along with numerous friends and family members, to witness the badge pinnings of firefighter paramedic Chris Palmer, corporal Mark Gutierrez and and police officer Addiel Julian.
Palmer was born in Upland and reared in Claremont, Calif. He graduated from Claremont High in 2003 and became an EMT in 2004. He attended the fire academy at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria in 2005 and began working for the National Park Service in Yosemite, Calif. He returned to Southern California in 2006 and worked for Cole-Schaefer Ambulance for the next three years. In 2009, Palmer was hired as a reserve firefighter with 29 Palms Fire Department. After spending four years there, he was hired with Morongo Valley Fire Department in 2013. In 2015 he took a leave of absence and put himself through paramedic school at Paramedic Training Institute. Palmer is assigned to “B” shift working at Fire Station 1 (downtown). His badge was pinned by his wife Brittany.

Gutierrez was born and reared in the City of La Verne and graduated from Bonita high School in 1994. In 1993, Gutierrez joined the La Verne Police Explorer Program where his Explorer Advisor, at the time, was Chief of Police Nick Paz. Gutierrez began his career as a Police Officer with the City of La Verne when he graduated from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy in 2004 and has been employed with the City for the past 14 years. During his career, Gutierrez has been part of a number of assignments that include patrol, field training officer, firearms instructor, tactical operator and sniper for our regional swat team. Gutierrez was also assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) where he was a sworn federal agent and investigated large scale narcotic traffickers through the use of wiretap investigations. Gutierrez is currently assigned as a Detective with the La Verne Police Department’s Detective Bureau. His daughter Reese Gutierrez and son Blake Gutierrez pinned his badge.
Deputy Sheriff Amy Julian pins her husband Addiel.
Julian was born in the City of Bellflower and reared in the Cities of Huntington Park and Lakewood. He graduated from Artesia High School and graduated from the Long Beach Police Academy in 2004. Julian joins the La Verne Police Department with 14 years of experience as a police officer with the Long Beach Police Department. He is married to Amy who was once a La Verne Reserve Police Officer and now is a Deputy Sheriff with the County of Los Angeles. She pinned his badge, which concluded the public ceremony.
By all accounts, it was a successful pinning for all.
