Experience A Brush with Kindness

Volunteers came out in force to support A Brush with Kindness.

LA VERNE, California, September 24, 2017 — What a great name for a program: A Brush with Kindness (ABWK)!

It’s an offshoot of Habitat for Humanity, the famous nonprofit organization whose vision is “a world where everyone has a decent place to live,” and as such, builds houses for people who otherwise can’t afford a home of their own.

Well, A Brush for Kindness helps people with low income and other disadvantages stay in their home by remodeling and fixing up the home’s exterior.

Once Habitat volunteers get on a roll, they hard to pull away for pictures.

One of ABWK’s latest project’s took place right here in La Verne on D Street on Saturday, involving about 50 volunteers from both the Habitat chapter in Pomona and Southern California Edison. The homeowners are all disabled and lacked both the physical and financial means to improve the aging structure.

Fueled by donuts, bagels, coffee and a higher calling to help out their fellow neighbors, the volunteers swarmed over the house with their scrapers and paintbrushes, freshening the exterior and restoring the luster of the once-proud bungalow.

Another recent project involved building a ramp to the entrance of a mobile home so the occupant could enter and exit his home safely.

To be a volunteer on future A Brush with Kindness Project, call Habitat at 909.596.7098. Habitat is located in the One West Building in La Verne at 2111 Bonita Ave. Jody Gmeiner serves as CEO.
