LA VERNE, California, September 12, 2017 — The Bonita varsity field hockey team had another successful tune-up before the start of league play, defeating Westminster 7-1 on the Bearcats’ home field on Tuesday afternoon.
Bonita’s Michelle Bouleware was responsible for more than half of the Bearcats’ offensive output, scoring four goals, including three in a row in the first half.
Storme Unsoeld, Julianna Guerrero, and Ivy Leroux each scored a goal to round out the scoring for the Bearcats who ran a high-octane offense from start to finish.
Bonita appeared to outhustle and outstick Westminster, and passed the ball well in executing their attack.
“Our passing was great,” Coach Janet Wong said after the match.
Besides Bouleware showcasing all of her offensive tools and low center of gravity allowing her to easily cut and slice through the Westminster defense, Julianna Guerrero also helped press the attack for the Bearcats.
“She was great from her center-mid position,” Wong said.
Bonita was able to sub freely during the game, allowing Wong a long look at some of her new varsity players who will play a key role once league competition starts.
“They played very well,” Wong said.
Wong had a chance to drive up the final margin, but was mindful that some of Bonita team’s had suffered through some humbling losses early in her program.
“I’m not promoting just Bonita,” she said. “I’m promoting the sport of field hockey. It’s not fun to pummel any team or to be pummeled.”
