Adrian Lopez looms large on the mound as he prepares to deliver his first pitch of the game.

The Chicago White Sox continued their late-season winning streak by prevailing against the Baltimore Orioles in a Tuesday evening contest at Kirk B. Johnson Memorial Pelota Park.

In the top of the first, the visiting Orioles scored the game’s first run on a two-out double by Andrew Alva, who eventually came around to score on a passed ball and a wild pitch.

Their lead, however, didn’t last long as the White Sox in the bottom half of the inning scored three runs, the big blow coming on a two-out double by Dylan Macias. Cody White drove in the team’s first run on a fielder’s choice to the second baseman.

The White Sox stretched their lead to 7-1 in the second inning with a two-out rally triggered by an RBI triple by hot-hitting Matt Fordon and a two-run single by Adrian Lopez.
Lopez also was doing damage from the pitcher’s mound where he surrendered only one run in three innings of work.

The White Sox had their biggest inning in the bottom of the third, batting around and scoring six runs, half of them coming on a home run swing by Gabe Hibbard, who was 2-for-2 on the night after adding a pair of walks and a single to his big fly.

In the top of the sixth, the Orioles’ Sam Ramirez singled.

The Orioles, whose bats were silent early, came to life in the late frames. They scored three in the top of the fourth, with 2 RBIs coming on a double by Michael Stenzel. They added a solo run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Cainan Rietze.

But clearly Tuesday was the White Sox’s night.

“Our bats are waking up,” said White Sox skipper Randy White. “Our players have that fire in their belly.”

Certainly, White couldn’t ask for better timing as his team points to the start of the weekend playoffs.

“We’re firing at the right time,” White said.
