Allen Yang couldn’t have achieved his Eagle Scouting Award without the support of his friends and fellow Scouts.
Allen Yang began as a Cub Scout at the age of 10 and continued his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America without interruption. During his years as a Boy Scout, he earned 41 merit badges, went on many camping trips, participated in three summer camps, and provided service to more than 16 Eagle Scout service projects. His Scouting experience included a number of leadership roles such as patrol leader, instructor, librarian, and scribe.
His own Eagle Scout service project was a challenging one. The project involved constructing concrete pads and installing concrete dining tables at the San Dimas High School student dining area. The job required the well-coordinated involvement of several different groups over many phases. He went to ready-mix concrete companies and tool-rental places like Home Depot and Lowes for financial support and discounts, contacted people with construction experience for advice and help, and managed more than 30 Scouts and volunteers. Allen was able to overcome many difficulties and eventually finish his project.
Besides his Scouting experience, Allen is a member of the San Dimas High School Marching Band in which he plays the clarinet. With the band, he competed in band field show competitions, wind ensemble competitions and participated in the Covina Christmas, San Dimas Western Day and Los Angeles County Fair parades. An outstanding student, he twice received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence from President Obama. He also passed five AP exams and earned the AP Scholar with Honor Award. His education prowess extended to the SATs, scoring 1,500 out of 1,600 possible points. In addition, he is a member of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Club and participated in the Los Angeles County Science Olympiad, competing in astronomy, bridge building, wind power, and remote sensing competitions.
In the fall, he plans to attend one of four University of California schools, which have offered him admission, or Cal Poly Pomona, where he will likely major in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering or computer science.
