Despite opening his chiropractic office in La Verne a little more than six years ago, Dr. Afshin Meyer doesn’t look as if he’s aged a day.
In fact, wherever you see him around town, which seems to be everywhere these days –- local restaurants, chamber of commerce meetings, the sidelines of a Friday night high school football game, working with a patient –- the former soccer star from Toronto appears to exhibit boundless energy and enthusiasm.
“As a former athlete,” Dr. Mehr said, “I know that receiving the best medical treatment is vital for maintaining good health and fitness.”
And for Dr. Mehr, “receiving the best medical treatment” means adding chiropractic care and treatment to your health and fitness regimen.
“Seventy-five to 80 percent of the population haven’t even been exposed to chiropractic medicine,” said Dr. Mehr, who received his undergraduate degree from York University in Toronto before going on to graduate from Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas.
“Other pathways to health need to be tried, when traditional ones are showing little or no progress.”
Those pathways have lately taken a high-tech, generational leap forward, with Dr. Mehr once again embracing the latest in scientific breakthroughs and treatments.
“The foundation of our state-of-the-art care is built on the FDA-cleared Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression System for the treatment of back and neck pain,” Dr. Mehr said.
In particular, the Triton Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression System he uses treats pain due to:
• Herniated/Bulging Spinal Discs
• Degenerative Disc Disease
• Sciatic Leg Pain | Arm and Neck Pain
• Posterior Facet Syndrome
• Foraminal Stenosis
• Post Back Surgery Pain
The technology applies a “distraction force” to elongate the spine and relieve nerve compression. Amazingly, the healing therapy boasts an 86% success rate. Not everyone, however, is a candidate for the therapy.
For that determination, Dr. Mehr offers a free consultation. People who are intested in learning whether they qualify for the breakthrough treatment, can begin by responding to a simple survey on Dr. Mehr’s website at www.lavernechiro.com.
Dr. Mehr is also a passionate proponent of Laser Therapy (LT). Clinical studies and trials have shown it to be especially effective in accelerating tissue repair and cell growth, promoting faster wound healing, reducing swelling, improving vascular activity, increasing metabolic activity, stimulating the body’s natural immune system, and reducing the formation of scar tissue following tissue damage from cuts, scratches, burns or surgery.
To his credit, Dr. Mehr’s website boasts an extensive and comprehensive education center, with 3D-modeling and complementary voiceovers that make it easy to follow sometimes complex information. The bottom line is Dr. Mehr wants to enhance the site visitor’s knowledge so that his or her first response after experiencing pain won’t be to take another pill or resort to some invasive surgery without considering all of their medical options first.
“So much of our health and fitness is directly related to the spine,” Dr. Mehr said. “It’s the foundation of the body, and through it runs your central nervous system, which controls all of your vital sensory and motor functions, including the healthy function of your organs. If there’s any impingement, interference or pressure on any part of this system, your body will be unhappy until the condition is corrected.”
Again, Dr. Mehr doesn’t intend for chiropractic approaches to replace traditional medical treatments; he just wants them to be embraced as serious alternatives when conventional measures fall short.
“There are times when surgery for back pain or radiating leg pain is necessary and appropriate for some patients,” Dr. Mehr noted. “For example, when there is a loss of bladder or bowel control, progressively worsening neurological symptoms in spite of non-surgical care, unstable fractures, cancer and infections.
“That said, if you don’t have any of the above conditions that require surgery, try other non-surgical treatments first. Get peace of mind by exhausting your non-surgical options before taking your chances with back surgery.”
Dr. Mehr’s “peace of mind” message has been resonating not only with patients in La Verne, but all throughout the San Gabriel and Inland Valley. His practice is thriving because his patients are thriving once again.
As for Mehr, it just seems like he has a bigger bounce in his step these days. The good doctor must be following his own advice and taking his own good medicine.
