A gala “evening at the opera” with gourmet refreshments and complimentary champagne will open the much anticipated third season of the Cultural Arts Society of La Verne on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Meeting House at Hillcrest.

The highly acclaimed Repertory Opera Company promises theater-goers an experience of the some of the most beautiful music ever written for the human voice.  Telling musical stories of love and loss, rivalry and revenge, mystery and mayhem, costumed singers will be creating scenes and singing favorite arias, duets, trios, and septets from a wide selection of popular operas including Mozart’s Magic Flute, Rossini’s Barber of Seville, Verdi’s Don Carlo, and Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet.

Imagine, a night at the opera without the long drive into Los Angeles, the parking fees, and the skyrocketing ticket prices! One of the goals of the Cultural Arts Society of La Verne is to bring the arts to our local community at affordable prices the whole family can enjoy. The Society is also committed to encouraging, promoting, and providing access to the arts for students as well, and is now able to offer a limited number of scholarship tickets for local art & music teachers to award to selected students.Tickets are on sale at The Meeting House at Hillcrest, 2705 Mountain View Drive, during business hours or online at www.livingathillcrest.org/news&events . Tickets for the opera are only $20 for General Admission and $25 for Preferred Seating (first four rows) and include the gourmet refreshments and complimentary champagne.

Since its inception three and a half years ago, the Cultural Arts Society has succeeded in providing access to a wide variety of performing arts events at affordable prices. It opened its first season in 2010 with a performance of the Repertory Opera Company to rave revues. It has continued to exceed all expectations with crowd pleasing productions  Last season’s presentation of the Funny Nun’s Catechism 3, Till Death Do Us Part, still brings smiles and stifled giggles to those that were there. Another favorite was the Los Angeles Doctors Symphony, which gave the audience an up-front- and-personal experience with a 60 piece orchestra.  The Interfaith Festival of Sacred Music, which has become a staple of the Cultural Arts annual seasons, will be back again for its third season. The Festival features local musicians from many faith backgrounds sharing the harmonies and rhythms of their religious traditions for an evening of peace and understanding.
