Although jumping out to an early 1-0 lead, the La Verne 8-9 All-Stars fell to a tough San Dimas American squad 8-2 at Claremont on Wednesday night.
Speedy Eric Esparsa lined a solid single for La Verne to lead off the game. Joe Castruita followed with a walk. With two on and nobody out, Parker Andersen drove a ball to the base of the right field fence for a long single, scoring Esparsa.
But San Dimas pitcher Jeff Eisenhart buckled down, surrendering justĀ aĀ single to Carly Longo to escapeĀ the inning without further damage.
San Dimas responded with two runs in the bottomĀ half of the first, the big blow coming on a one-out two-run double by Eisenhart. San Dimas scored four more runs in the bottom of the second to put the game out of reach.
La Verneās lone other run came in the top of the fourth when Myles Noriega, who drew a two-out walk, raced in from third on a wild pitch.
But between Eisenhart and relief pitcher Liam Rocha, San Dimas was just too much for La Verneās hitters on this night.
La Verne comes right back tonight with a 6 p.m. game against Glendora American at Claremont.
