City Crowns 3 Basketball Champions on Super Saturday

The Warriors claimed the A Division title, downing the Lakers in a well-played game featuring a lot of top talent that will surely bring a smile to the area's high school coaches.

The Warriors claimed the A Division title, downing the Lakers in a well-played game featuring a lot of top talent that will surely bring a smile to the area's high school coaches.

The City of La Verne’s Recreation department crowned three division basketball champions at Bonita High School on Saturday.

In the C Division, the Celtics held off a determined Hornets team, 22-19. At one point, the Hornets trailed 10-2 before reeling off a dozen straight points. Entering the final quarter, the teams were tied 14-14. Celtics coach Andy Powell saw his son Sean sink some clutch free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.

In the B Division, The Thunder led from start to flagfall, 10-2, 16-16, 23-14 and 33-17, showcasing a suffocating full-court press in the fourth to take home the win.

In the A Division, the final game of the day, the fans were treated to a fast-paced game, featuring several future high school stars. The Warriors prevailed 36-24, with Russell Hernandez leading the way.
