Lancers celebrate win over Rialto and berth in playoffs.

The LVSD Pop Warner Lancers and Spartans are headed to the playoffs after convincing wins on Sunday at Glenn Davis Stadium. Meanwhile, the Vulcans fell to a tough San Bernardino squad 19-6.

In the opener, the Spartans took a 20-0 half-time lead over Rancho Cucamonga after quarterback Bryce Young connected with wide receiver Chandler August for six points.

After a fumble recovery in the third quarter, the Spartans extended that lead to 27-0, needing just two runs – one by Jarren Ford, the other by Devin Gitchuway – to punch the pigskin into the end zone.

Nobody was happier about the 27-7 win than head coach Craig Young. “We had a lot to play for today,” Young said. “We just came off two disappointing losses, so the coaching staff challenged our team to step up, and they did.”

In the sandwich game, the Vulcans battled hard all afternoon before falling to San Bernardino 19-6. They suffered a tough break when a long touchdown run by Lance Garcia was called back because of a penalty.

The Vulcans finally lit up the scoreboard with 1:33 left in the game on a quarterback keeper by Damen Baro.

After losing two in a row, the Lancers faced a must-win situation against Rialto, and didn’t disappoint as quarterback Jaylin Palacios and receiver E.J. Pasowicz hooked up for two touchdown scores. The second, coming on a play called the “swinging gate,” where Pasowicz ran behind a wall of blockers, electrified the crowd.

Meanwhile, the Lancer defense was brilliant.

Plan to return to Glenn Davis Stadium on Oct. 30 for championship Sunday to see more outstanding youth football. Also check out the REEL video, where we captured some of the football excitement on Sunday.
