In one of the best games of the day at Pelota Park on Tournament Saturday in La Verne, the No. 1-seeded Yankees in the Minor Division needed extra innings to defeat the Giants, 4-3. While there were many heroes for the Yankees, two stood extremely tall, with Carly Longo getting the win with some great clutch pitching and Anthony Mejia producing the winning RBI with his solid single to left scoring Jonathan Renteria.

Also, in the Minor Division, the Mets breezed to an 8-1 over the Angels.

In the Major Division, the Tigers tripped up the Dodgers, 13-5, and the Athletics held off the Cubs 9-8.

At one point, the Cubs were sailing along with a 9-2 lead, behind four RBIs from Nemo Nunez, who also blasted a three-run homer. Then the Cubs caught fire late led by Anthony Cascarano, who almost hit for the cycle going three for three with a homer, triple and a double. The Athletics got good early pitching from Matt Rhodus and clutch late inning pitching from Tommy Crispo, who worked out of a sixth-inning jam to preserve the victory.

Tournament action will continue all week at Pelota Park in all divisions, so why not come out to the park to watch a game and support your favorite team. For game times, go to http://www.eteamz.com/LaVerneLL/
